How long for Google Search to break with no additional programming changes?

AT the 2005 SQL Conference in April Tim Oreilly (Tim O'Reilly is founder and CEO of O'Reilly Media, Inc)

( http://www.oreilly.com/ ) stated that he recently asked some Google Search programmers how long Google Search results would remain relevant if the programmers weren’t making changes every day. They said that within 24 hours spammy websites would be severely corrupting the results.
